Taking part in the FCE examination

Before the first exam, which by the way was the Speaking Exam, I was incredibly nervous and felt like I was not prepared enough and I was so scared, because I knew that the examiners did not speak German and therefore could not understand what I was trying to say if my English was too bad to be understood by a native English speaker. I was very happy that I could do the Speaking Exam with my friend, though. I felt much safer and very self-confident and the second I entered the room, I felt so relieved:

The examiners were very kind and made me feel very comfortable. I loved not having to introduce myself, but being asked questions. This way I did not have to stress myself out about how to introduce myself and what information to include or to leave out. It went very well and I felt very optimistic after the Speaking part. When we had the Listening, Writing, Reading and Use of English exam, I was very stressed out because of the long time that we had to stay there (three and a half hours of testing!), but looking back at it, it was just fine. We had enough breaks between the different parts, and having all the people I know around me really made me feel somewhat ‘’at home’’.

After the exam I felt like I had just failed everything, and really the worst about all of it was having to wait for the results for so (damn) long.

But the exam itself felt just like the practice. I guess I felt that way because we had been prepared very well.

In the end, I had a great result and it worked out perfectly for me, so the most important thing is to really participate in class and to be self-confident. And most importantly, do not stress yourself out and keep focused. Also do not lose your log-in data! Otherwise you’ll have to wait even longer for your exam results!

Good luck to you !
